Introduction to the Renaissance

Welcome!  I am excited to make art with you this year in fourth grade.  We will be learning about the art of the Renaissance.  We will draw, sculpt and paint projects as we connect with master works and master artists of this time in history.  I would like for you to begin by watching this introductory video.  At the end of the video, you will be asked to do two things for the week:

1.  Make a list of words to describe the art of the Middle Ages and a list to describe Renaissance Art.  In our small groups live and online, we will discuss these lists.

2.  Draw a face and a figure (person).  Renaissance artists studied the human body to learn how to draw realistic figures.  We will be practicing figure drawing and proportions of the body.  When we finish the quarter, I want you to look back on these drawings to see how much you have learned.  Don't worry if you are not sure about how it looks.  Just do your best!  Your drawings should be uploaded to Artsonia by Friday!

You Are an Artist

Did you know you are an artist?  Not everyone thinks of themselves this way.  You are an artist when you think creatively, try new things and even when you practice art skills.  This week, enjoy hearing stories about:

                                                                Tomie

                                                               Matthew

                                                                Ramon

Each character in the stories is learning a little bit about what it means to be an artist.  This week's lesson will teach your class and me about you.  Follow along with this video to make a self-portrait.  I can't wait to see how you write your name, what colors you choose, what you look like, and what you love to do.  Did you know your artwork can tell us that much about you?

Don't forget to upload your artwork to your portfolio!  Go to Artsonia  Use the code:  WCCP-WSTF

Welcome, Mrs. Manata!

I hope everyone has been enjoying their summer.  I have spent my summer painting, reading, hiking and gardening.  I am starting to plan for our fall classes, and I wanted to share with you a video that is meant as an orientation tool for art class.  Prescott is happy to welcome a second art teacher this fall, and you will "meet" her and hear a little bit about our art classes.  I look forward to seeing you all soon!
